The recent scandals in the Roman Catholic Church involving pedophilia,
attitudes to homosexuality, ordination of women as priests, abortion,
and other issues, revolve around the Church's attitudes toward human
sexuality. Through the centuries, Judaism has taken a different path
when dealing with human sexuality, considering sex as a normal
component of our humanness.
Rabbi Schoolman will lead a discussion on these issues, including
attitudes toward our bodies, sexual drive in men and women, what is
considered normal and abnormal, permissible behavior and the
consideration of boundaries. We will look at classical and
contemporary texts. Your questions and discussion are welcome.
Neilah prayers will commence at about 5 p.m, with the day's services
ending at about 6 p.m. A break the fast reception will follow.
